Mrs. Skyles First day of 1st Grade 2

Welcome to Mrs. Skyles' 1st Grade Class!

My name is Mrs. Skyles and I am looking forward to teaching First Grade this year! In first grade, we will develop skills to become detectives who learn to make observations of the resources around us.  We will ask questions, brainstorm ideas, and work together to discover new information in all subject areas.

First graders will learn about Jesus and how He is always with us through the good times and the bad. This year's school theme, forward in faith, makes me think about how we should trust in God to help us get through the hard times in life.  Joshua 1:9 says, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."

By hiding God's word in our hearts through our memory verses, we claim God's promises for us.  We will learn about the armor of God and the fruits of the Spirit. First graders will practice treating "our neighbors" with kindness, forgiveness, and respect as an extension of our faith.

Finally, I look forward in faith to partnering with you and your child this year.  Together we will watch them grow both academically and spiritually!
