With a new quarter beginning, I'd like to keep you abreast of what your child will be studying this quarter.
  • In Religion, we are continuing our study of World Faiths. Our next topic is Islam, which for those who were here last year, will be an extension of what we learned already in our Islamic Empires unit in Social Studies last year. Given the current tensions between Iran and the U.S., it's certainly relevant for students to develop an understanding of other cultures and beliefs and how they've shaped countries in our world today.
  • In Language Arts this quarter, we'll be reading and watching the BBC production of Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice. While this is primarily a comedy, it also relates to our study of Judaism last quarter. We'll discuss the forced conversion of Shylock to Christianity at the end of the play and how this compares to how we approach sharing our faith today. We will pick up our Vocabulary study with List 12. In Grammar, we'll look at how verbs can be used in different moods, then do a bit more with verbals (gerunds and infinitives).
  • In Social Studies, we will continue exploring World War I. We left off before break with a Reader's Theater activity about the 1914 Christmas Truce (a fascinating act of Christian goodwill - ask your child for details). Last year, students especially enjoyed our simulation as representatives from different countries trying to negotiate alliances and responses to aggressive actions from other nations, so I am looking forward to enhancing our unit with that activity.
  •   While we did not meet our 2nd Quarter class Accelerated Reader goal to earn a trip to Starbucks/Wawa, I did reward participants with a homemade cookie this morning. For 3rd Quarter, while Accelerated Reader continues to be ungraded, participants will earn bonus points (up to 15 pts.) towards their Language Arts grade if they have read and tested on two books and met their individual AR goals by the end of the quarter (March 24).

Welcome to Mrs. Jaeger's Webpage!

Our theme verse this year is about going Forward in Faith, trusting God for directions along life's path: "...for we walk by faith, not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5:7).

This is an extension of last year's emphasis on being Connected to Christ and Connected to Community. Our middle school students connect to Christ as they study and memorize the Scriptures in Religion class and Middle School Bible Study, and as they praise Him during Chapel and Middle School devotions.

Students connect to the Grace community through our Chapel Buddies program, where older students are paired with four-year-old students for chapel and other buddy-bonding activities. Students build relationships through after-school clubs such as Russian Club and Cooking Club. They learn teamwork through playing on our golf, volleyball, soccer, cross-country, basketball, cheer, and track teams. They build relationships on class trips.

Grace parents connect to our community through cheering on our sports teams together, chaperoning field trips, worshipping at chapel, and more!

Grace graduates connect to area high schools, arriving 100 percent prepared for the transition to high school. While at Grace, students develop study skills, note-taking skills, writing skills, and a well-rounded academic foundation that will allow them to succeed at the next level at the school of their choosing.

I am cheering for my students and their families along this journey! I am ready and willing to guide students as they learn and grow, clearing roadblocks and soothing sore spirits. I love teaching middle schoolers because they bring energy to the classroom.

As I seek to teach children, I am always mindful that I am praying for the Lord to teach me, too. “Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long” (Psalm 25:4-5).

May God bless us as we encourage each other to stay Connected while moving Forward in Faith this school year!
