Greetings Kindergarten Families,
Just one more full week and then a little break. Yay for Thanksgiving! We have a very busy week, so here are this week's announcements:
*Scrip orders are due by 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
*Picture retakes are on Thursday.
*Trike-a-Thon is on Friday morning. Reminder information will go out on our facebook page.
*Thanksgiving break is from Wednesday, November 22-26th.
*Your child will receive a project this week for homework. This project will go home today, along with this week's sight word list. The projects are due on Friday and the children will present their projects to the class. This project is called "Disguise a Turkey". I know the children will have a lot of fun with this! :There will be no show-n-tell since we are presenting projects. :)
Academics:
Our curriculum picks up great speed this week in both reading and math. We will learn about adjectives this week and learn how to edit a sentence. We will learn what a fairy tale is and understand the difference between fantasy and realism. In phonics, we will continue adding digraph blends to our list of consonant blends and "special sounds", including /ch/, /th/, /sh/, and /ph/. We will learn the /m/ blends ladder this week. We are currently learning the long vowel rule of silent vowels as well. We will start a new unit in math this week on teen numbers, groups of ten, and subtracting one from a number. We do not have a number of the week since we are starting in teens numbers. Bible this week will focus entirely on Thanksgiving. We will read from the book of Psalms and also read The Ten Lepers from the book of Luke. We will have some special activities this week to go with our lessons, as well as a special devotional. Social studies will focus on Native American children this week as we learn more about the first Thanksgiving. We will learn about turkeys and their habitats in science. Our sight words for the week are: from, get, go. We do not have a letter of the week since we are reviewing the letter /Ii/ in our curriculum.
Have a wonderful and blessed week everyone! :)
