Hello Kindergarten families! I would like to formally welcome you and your children to my class. As you know, my name is Tracy Harrell, but I go by “Mrs. Tracy”. There is much more for us to learn about one another, so I am giving you a little bio here before we meet on Thursday.
I am married with two adult sons, now in their mid-twenties. I am a native of Atlanta, Georgia, but have lived in Jacksonville for the past 27 years. The Lord called me to teach when my own children were in preschool. My love for volunteering in their school led me to pursue a teaching career. I went on to earn an Associate of Arts in Elementary Education, an Associate of Science in Early Childhood Management, and a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education with a minor in Social Science and History. I have taught in Christian education for the past 19 years in grades pre-K through second grade. Much of my experience consists of being a “looping” teacher, having taught five kindergarten-to-first grade loops. Having experience as a looping teacher affords me a unique perspective on understanding where children begin developmentally in kindergarten and knowing what milestones they need to achieve by the end of their first grade year. Teaching is not only my career, it is also my passion and joy. I believe the Lord places every child in my path according to His plan and purpose, and I love being able to minister to and teach the children He has entrusted me with!
As part of my service to the Grace community outside my classroom, I serve as the head cheerleading coach for our school’s middle school cheerleading squad. I also plan to pilot a school club this year (clubs are for first grade and up) that focuses on praise and worship through the use of sign language.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and three beagles. As empty-nesters, my husband and I are blessed to have opportunities to travel, go boating, hiking, and explore historical sites, state, and national parks. Though my first love is being in the mountains of my home state, my husband’s job as the Assistant Dockmaster for the City of Jacksonville allows us to spend time navigating the local waterways as well. As an integral part of my Christian walk, I am an active member of North Jacksonville Baptist Church, where I have also served in children’s ministry. I am so very excited to be of service to you and your child at Grace Lutheran School and look forward to meeting everyone soon!
