Welcome to October!  This month will be a fun-filled, learning-filled, Christ-filled month in kindergarten!  Here are highlights for this week:

*Friday will be dress-down day for all who purchased Grace Jax pink and black shirts.  More info about this will go home from Mrs. Tanner regarding dress attire.

*Mrs. Sasse's class and kindergarten have a field trip planned for October 27th to Shepherd of the Woods Lutheran Church Pumpkin Patch.  Information about this will go home so expect both a field trip permission form as well as a parent chaperone/driver form.

*An October calendar will go home on Monday in the back side of your child's folder.

*Reading/Language/Phonics:  We will begin a new author study this week for Laura Numeroff.  She is the wonderful author of circular stories such as "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie".  We will read "If you Give a Moose a Muffin" this week, in honor of one of our letters of the week, /Mm/.  Our other letters for the week are /Tt/, /Cc/, and /Oo/.  Benchmark testing will also be this week.  I will send home a study guide in the homework pack.  Testing will include all letters and sounds both upper and lower case, as well as learned sight words and reading comprehension.

Sight Words for this week are:  BE and BIG.  I am only assigning two so that your children can focus on reviewing for the benchmark testing.

*Math unit testing will also be this week.  It will cover numbers 0-9, patterns, shapes, and pairs.  We will begin a new unit this week and learn about groups and sets.

*Science will be very exciting this month as we dive into all things fall!  This week, we will learn all about leaves.  We will collect some leaves and use magnifiers to study them.  If you have any leaves at home already in your yard, please send in a small ziploc bag with a few.  Thanks!  :)

*Bible lessons this week will focus on the story of Jacob.  We will also learn the sign language for the song, Jesus Loves Me.

Have a wonderful week everyone!  :)
