Our theme verse this year is 2 Corinthians 5:7: For we walk by faith, not by sight.
At Grace Lutheran School, we strive to move "forward in faith" in all that we do! The Bible teaches us that we are to be active participants in our faith life. We achieve this through worship, communion with fellow believers, prayer, serving others, and discipleship.
At Grace, students are encouraged to move forward in faith through experiences and opportunities both within our school community and beyond. Children experience worship through chapel and songs. They are engaged in Bible lessons and devotions that expand their knowledge and faith. They participate daily in prayer both as a class and as a school. Children are exposed to core Christian values and principals through a cross-curricular approach that integrates the message of Christ into all we do.
We move forward in faith at Grace by serving and helping others through the many service projects we participate in throughout the year. Through children's interactions with people in the community and even outside it, they learn compassion, generosity, and caring.
Teaching in a Christian school, for me, is not only a calling, but a responsibility. Jesus instructs us in Matthew 28:18-20 to “go and make disciples of all nations.” I believe we must start with the youngest ones and instill in them the love, grace, mercy, and forgiveness that Christ gives to us.
I choose to teach Kindergarten because it is a very special year for both children and their families. It is a year of many "firsts", including making new friends and learning how to read and write. It is also a wonderful year of self-discovery! As children go about their day in my class, they will have many opportunities to ask questions, problem-solve, create, and explore through hands-on STEM activities, manipulatives, stories, and group discussions. They will also be given all the fundamentals they need for early reading and writing. Most importantly, they will gain a strong foundation for their Christian walk by hearing old testament stories and learning about the life of Jesus. They will sing traditional Sunday school songs, as well as praise and worship songs with sign language to accompany them! Christian morals and values are woven into all activities as children learn how to treat others with kindness, love, and respect. Our ultimate goal at Grace is that children show the light of Jesus in their actions, thoughts, and words.
Kindergarten promises to be an exciting year full of fun and learning, and I feel blessed to a part of kindergarten life here at Grace Lutheran School.
